Rajab
The seventh month of the Islamic calendar and one of the four sacred months in Islam. The 13th marks the blessed birth of Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (a.s.) inside the Ka'bah in Makkah. The 27th (Yawm al-Mab'as) commemorates the day the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) received his first divine revelation. The Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) is reported to have said: 'Rajab is the month of Allah, Sha'ban is my month, and Ramadan is the month of my Ummah.'
1st of Rajab (Shab)
The first night and day of Rajab are among the most auspicious of the year. It is one of the four nights when supplications are especially accepted. Fasting on the first of Rajab is greatly recommended, and special prayers and duas are performed on both the night and the day.
Moon Sighting Prayer
Upon sighting the new crescent of Rajab, the following acts are recommended: 1. Recite [Surah al-Fatihah](surah://1) seven times — narrated in Iqbal al-A'mal to protect from eye ailments throughout the month. 2. Recite the dua of the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) upon seeing the crescent: {{arabic}} 3. Then recite the crescent dua: {{arabic}}

O Allah, bless us in Rajab and Sha'ban and make us reach the month of Ramadan. Help us in fasting, standing for prayers, guarding the tongue, and lowering the gaze — and do not make our only share in it hunger and thirst.|||O Allah, cause this crescent to appear over us carrying security, faith, safety, and submission to You. Your Lord and my Lord is Allah, the Mighty and Majestic.
First Night of Rajab (Shab)
The first night of Rajab is among the four nights of the year when du'as are especially accepted. Recommended acts: 1. Recite [Ziyarat of Imam Husayn (a.s.)](dua://ziyarat-imam-hussain-rajab15) — a special Ziyarat is narrated for this night. 3. 20-rakat prayer after Maghrib — offered two rakats at a time, with taslim (salam) after each pair (ten sets total). In each rakat: [Surah al-Fatihah](surah://1) once + [Surah al-Tawhid](surah://112) once. Narrated to protect one's family and bring swift passage on the Day of Judgement. 4. 2-rakat prayer after Isha: - Rakat 1: [Surah al-Fatihah](surah://1) + [Surah al-Inshirah](surah://94) + [Surah al-Tawhid](surah://112) three times - Rakat 2: [Surah al-Fatihah](surah://1) + [Surah al-Inshirah](surah://94) + [Surah al-Tawhid](surah://112) + [Surah al-Falaq](surah://113) + [Surah al-Nas](surah://114) - After salaam: recite لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ (La ilaha illallah) thirty times and اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ (Salawat) thirty times. 5. 30-rakat prayer — in each rakat: [Surah al-Fatihah](surah://1) once + [Surah al-Kafirun](surah://109) once + [Surah al-Tawhid](surah://112) three times. Reward: all sins forgiven, protected from hypocrisy. 6. Recite the supplication of Imam Muhammad al-Jawad (a.s.) after Isha — recorded in Iqbal al-A'mal by Sayyid Ibn Tawus: {{arabic}} You may then mention your requests.

Salat al-Layl — First Night of Rajab
Offer [Salat al-Layl](salah://salat-al-layl) (the Night Prayer — eight rakats + three-rakat witr). Ibn Ashyam narrates: it is advisable to recite the following after completing the eight-rakat portion of Salat al-Layl and before beginning the three-rakat witr. Sit and recite: {{arabic}}

All praise be to Allah Whose treasures are inexhaustible and those secured by Him shall never fear anything. O my Lord, as I have committed acts of disobedience to You, this was only out of my full confidence in Your generosity. Verily, You accept the repentance of Your servants, pardon their wrongdoings, and forgive their flaws. You respond to one who calls upon You, and You are near to him. I am repenting before You from my sins and from You do I desire a good portion of Your gifts. O Creator of all beings\! O my Redeemer from all hardships\! O my Rescuer from all perils\! Confer upon me pleasure and save me from the evil consequences of all affairs. Verily, You are Allah — thanked for Your bounties and ample gifts, and the source hoped for in all good.
Salat al-Layl — Dua After Completion
Ali ibn Hadid has narrated that Imam Musa ibn Ja'far al-Kazim (a.s.) used to recite the following while prostrating after completing [Salat al-Layl](salah://salat-al-layl):

O He Who existed before all things! O Author of all things! Verily, You have power over all things. O Allah, I seek Your protection against deviation at the hour of death, evil recourse in the grave, and regret on the Day of the approaching doom. I beseech You to send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad, and to make my life wholesome, my death sound, and my resort honorable — neither disgraceful nor scandalous. O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and his Household — the Imams, the sources of wisdom, the causes of bliss, and the essences of immaculacy. Protect me through them against all evils; do not seize me unexpectedly or inattentively; do not allow my end to be regretful; and be pleased with me — for Your forgiveness is for the wrongdoers, and I am among them. O Allah, forgive me my faults that do not harm You and give me from that which does not cause decrease to You. Verily, You are the One Whose mercy is all-embracing and Whose wisdom is all-excellent. Grant me opulence, comfort, security, health, wholesomeness, contentment, thanksgiving, good health, piety, patience, sincerity before You and Your Saints, and affluence. Include with this, O my Lord, my family, my children, my brethren-in-faith, all those whom I love and who love me, and my offspring and all my forebears among the Muslims and believers, O Lord of the worlds!

O Allah: I verily beseech You, O Allah; O Allah; O Allah; You are Allah; the Eternal, Whose Great Kingdom is everlasting. You are Allah; the Ever-living, the Self-Subsisting, the Master, the All-hearing, and the All-seeing. O He to Whose Godhead, might and majesty, grandeur and greatness, power and knowledge and potency, light and spirit, volition and tenderness and mercy and lordship — all these belong. To Your light, all lights glowed; and all fires abated; and all darkness submitted. I beseech You by Your Name that You derived from Your eternity, infinity and light; and by the Grandest Name derived from Your grandeur, omnipotence, greatness and might; and by Your magnanimity, mercy, clemency, and knowledge of the unseen. And I beseech You by all of Your Most Excellent Names. There is no god save You; the One, the Unique, the Besought of all, the Ever-living, the Foremost, the Last, the Evident, the Immanent. O Allah, give my intellect a manifest proof against my lusts, attach my choices to appositeness, make piety my companion. Guide me to Your straight path; grant me this month's good and make me of the winners, O the most Merciful. I beseech You to send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad, and to rescue me from my enemies and make me attain my hope. O Allah, bless Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad as You blessed Abraham and the Household of Abraham. Verily You are worthy of all praise, full of all glory.
General Amaal of Rajab
Throughout the entire month of Rajab, certain practices are especially recommended. Imam al-Sadiq (a.s.) reported the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) as saying: 'Rajab is the month of imploring forgiveness for my people — implore forgiveness repeatedly in this month, for Allah is forgiving and merciful.'
Istighfar — Throughout Rajab
The most recommended dhikr of Rajab. Imam al-Sadiq (a.s.) reported the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) as saying: 'Rajab is the month of imploring forgiveness — implore forgiveness much more than you do in other months, for Allah is forgiving and merciful.' Repeat this frequently throughout the month: {{arabic}}
أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ وَأَسْأَلُهُ التَّوْبَةَ
Astaghfirullāha wa as'aluhut tawbah
I ask Allah for forgiveness and I pray to Him to accept my repentance.
Fasting — Three Days in Rajab
It is recommended to fast on three days in the month of Rajab: Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. It has been narrated that one who fasts on these three days in any of the Sacred Months will be awarded the reward of nine hundred years of worship.
Tasbih — For Those Unable to Fast
For one who is unable to fast during Rajab, recite the following four glorifications one hundred times each day throughout the month: {{arabic}}
Subḥānal ilāhil jalīl Subḥāna man lā yanbaghit tasbiḥu illā lah Subḥānal a'azzil akram Subḥāna man labisal 'izza wa huwa lahu ahl
Glory be to the All-majestic God. Glory be to Him other than Whom none should be glorified. Glory be to the All-honorable and All-dignified. Glory be to Him Who has dressed Himself with grandeur that fits none but Him.
Istighfar

O He Who sends mercy from its origins and originates blessings from their centers! O He Who has given Himself exclusively disdain and elevation, such that His saints feel dignified out of His honor! O He for Whom all kings have put the yoke of humiliation on their necks, as they are fearful of His supremacy! I beseech You in the name of Your Entity from which You derived Your Pride, I beseech You in the name of Your Pride from which You derived Your Dignity, I beseech You in the name of Your Dignity by which You are firmly established on the throne of authority, having created all Your creatures who are submissive to You — to send blessings upon Muhammad and his Household.
