Amaal
Islamic monthly amaal, occasions, and devotional practices in Shia Journey.
- Muharram
The first month of the Islamic calendar and one of the four sacred months. For Shia Muslims, Muharram is a month of mourning commemorating the tragedy of Karbala, where Imam Hussain (a.s.) and his companions were martyred in 61 AH.
- Safar
The second month of the Islamic calendar, historically associated with many significant events including the aftermath of Karbala. The surviving family of Imam Hussain (a.s.) endured captivity and hardship during this month.
- Rabi ul Awwal
The third month of the Islamic calendar. Shia Muslims celebrate this month for the births of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.a.) on the 17th and Imam Ja'far al-Sadiq (a.s.) on the 17th of Rabi ul Awwal, and observe Hafta-e-Wahdat (Unity Week) from 12th to 17th.
- Rabi ul Akhir
The fourth month of the Islamic calendar. The 10th is the birthday of Imam Hasan al-Askari (a.s.) in AH 232, a day on which fasting is recommended as thanks to Allah.
- Jamad ul Awwal
The fifth month of the Islamic calendar. According to some narrations, the martyrdom of Sayyida Fatimah al-Zahra (s.a.) may have occurred on the 13th, 14th, or 15th of this month, as she lived 75 days after the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) who departed on the 28th of Safar.
- Jamad us Sani
The sixth month of the Islamic calendar. Most notably the birth of Sayyida Fatimah al-Zahra (s.a.) on the 20th, and her martyrdom according to one narration on the 3rd. Also the martyrdom of Imam Ali al-Hadi (a.s.) on the 26th.
- Rajab
The seventh month of the Islamic calendar and one of the four sacred months in Islam. The 13th marks the blessed birth of Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (a.s.) inside the Ka'bah in Makkah. The 27th (Yawm al-Mab'as) commemorates the day the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) received his first divine revelation. The Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) is reported to have said: 'Rajab is the month of Allah, Sha'ban is my month, and Ramadan is the month of my Ummah.'
- Sha'ban
The eighth month of the Islamic calendar and the month of the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.). It contains major occasions: the 3rd marks the blessed birth of Imam Hussain ibn Ali (a.s.), and the 15th (Nisf Sha'ban) commemorates both Laylat al-Baraat — the Night of Forgiveness — and the birthday of Imam Muhammad al-Mahdi (ajtf) in 255 AH. The Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) is reported to have said: 'Rajab is the month of Allah, Sha'ban is my month, and Ramadan is the month of my Ummah.'
- Ramadan
- Shawwal
The tenth month of the Islamic calendar, beginning with the joyous occasion of Eid al-Fitr — the Festival of Breaking the Fast. Shawwal also marks the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Ja'far al-Sadiq (a.s.), the sixth Imam, who was poisoned on the 25th of this month in 148 AH.
- Dhul Qa'dah
The eleventh month of the Islamic calendar and the first of the four sacred months (al-Ashhur al-Hurum) in which fighting is forbidden. Sayyid Ibn Tawus defines it as 'the month of responding to prayers in hardships.' It contains the birth anniversary of Imam Ali al-Ridha (a.s.) and the blessed occasion of Dahw al-Ardh (the spreading of the earth).
