Munajaat 4: Al-Rajeen (The Hopeful)

  1. بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

    bismillahi alrrahmani alrrahimi

    In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful

  2. يَا مَنْ إِذا سَأَلَهُ عَبْدٌ أَعْطَاهُ

    ya man idha sa'alahu `abdun a`tahu

    O He who gives to a servant who asks from Him,

  3. وَإِذَا أَمَّلَ مَا عِنْدَهُ بَلَّغَهُ مُنَاهُ

    wa idha ammala ma `indahu ballaghahu munahu

    takes him to his wish when he expectantly hopes for what is with Him,

  4. وَإِذَا أَقْبَلَ عَلَيْهِ قَرَّبَهُ وَأَدْنَاهُ

    wa idha aqbala `alayhi qarrabahu wa adnahu

    brings him near and close when he approaches Him,

  5. وَإِذا جَاهَرَهُ بِٱلْعِصْيَانِ سَتَرَ عَلَىٰ ذَنْبِهِ وَغَطَّاهُ

    wa idha jaharahu bil`isyani satara `ala dhanbihi wa ghattahu

    covers over his sin and cloaks it when he shows it openly,

  6. وَإِذا تَوَكَّلَ عَلَيْهِ أَحْسَبَهُ وَكَفَاهُ

    wa idha tawakkala `alayhi ahsabahu wa kafahu

    and satisfies and suffices him when he has confidence in Him!

  7. إِلٰهِي مَنِ ٱلَّذِي نَزَلَ بِكَ مُلْتَمِساً قِرَاكَ فَمَا قَرَيْتَهُ

    ilahi man alladhi nazala bika multamisan qiraka fama qaraytahu

    My God, who is the one who has come before You seeking hospitality, and whom You have not received hospitably?

  8. وَمَنِ ٱلَّذِي أَناخَ بِبَابِكَ مُرْتَجِياً نَدَاكَ فمَا أَوْلَيْتَهُ

    wa man alladhi anakha bibabika murtajiyan nadaka fama awlaytahu

    Who is the one who has dismounted at Your door hoping for magnanimity, and to whom You have not shown it?

  9. أَيَحْسُنُ أَنْ أَرْجِعَ عَنْ بَابِكَ بِٱلْخَيْبَةِ مَصْرُوفاً

    ayahsunu an arji`a `an babika bilkhaybati masrufan

    Is it good that I come back from Your door, turned away in disappointment,

  10. وَلَسْتُ أَعْرِفُ سِوَاكَ مَوْلًىٰ بِٱلإِحْسَانِ مَوْصُوفاً

    wa lastu a`rifu siwaka mawlan bil-ihsani mawsufan

    while I know of no patron qualified by beneficence but You?

  11. كَيفَ أَرْجُو غَيْرَكَ وَٱلْخَيْرُ كُلُّهُ بِيَدِكَ

    kayfa arju ghayraka walkhayru kulluhu biyadika

    How should I have hope in other than You, when the good—all of it—is in Your hand?

  12. وَكَيْفَ أُؤَمِّلُ سِوَاكَ وَٱلْخَلْقُ وَٱلأَمْرُ لَكَ

    wa kayfa u'ammilu siwaka walkhalqu wal-amru laka

    How should I expect from others, when Yours are the creation and the command?

  13. أَأَقْطَعُ رَجَائِي مِنْكَ

    a'aqta`u raja'i minka

    Should I cut off my hope for You,

  14. وَقَدْ أَوْلَيْتَنِي مَا لَمْ أَسْأَلْهُ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ

    wa qad awlaytani ma lam as'alhu min fadlika

    when You have shown me of Your bounty that for which I have not asked?

  15. أَمْ تُفْقِرُنِي إِلَىٰ مِثْلِي

    am tufqiruny ila mithli

    Would You make me have need for my like?

  16. وَأَنَا أَعْتَصِمُ بِحَبْلِكَ

    wa ana a`tasimu bihablika

    But I hold fast to Your cord!

  17. يَا مَنْ سَعِدَ بِرَحْمَتِهِ ٱلْقَاصِدُونَ

    ya man sa`ida birahmatihi alqasiduna

    O He through whose mercy the strivers reach felicity

  18. وَلَمْ يَشْقَ بِنَقِمَتِهِ ٱلْمُسْتَغْفِرُونَ

    wa lam yashqa binaqimatihi almustaghfiruna

    and through whose vengeance the seekers of forgiveness are not made wretched!

  19. كَيْفَ أَنْسَاكَ وَلَمْ تَزَلْ ذَاكِرِي

    kayfa ansaka wa lam tazal dhakiri

    How should I forget You, while You never cease remembering me?

  20. وَكَيْفَ أَلْهُو عَنْكَ وَأَنْتَ مُرَاقِبِي

    wa kayfa alhu `anka wa anta muraqibi

    How should I be diverted from You while You are my constant watcher?

  21. إِلٰهِي بِذَيْلِ كَرَمِكَ أَعْلَقْتُ يَدِي

    ilahi bidhayli karamika a`laqtu yadi

    My God, I have fastened my hand to the skirt of Your generosity,

  22. وَلِنَيْلِ عَطَايَاكَ بَسَطْتُ أَمَلِي

    wa linayli `atayaka basattu amali

    I have stretched forth my expectation toward reaching Your gifts,

  23. فَأَخْلِصْنِي بِخَالِصَةِ تَوْحِيدِكَ

    fa akhlisni bikhalisati tawhidika

    So, render me pure through the purest profession of Your Unity,

  24. وَٱجْعَلْنِي مِنْ صَفْوَةِ عَبِيدِكَ

    waj`alni min safwati `abidika

    and appoint me one of Your choice servants!

  25. يَا مَنْ كُلُّ هَارِبٍ إِلَيْهِ يَلْتَجِئُ

    ya man kullu haribin ilayhi yaltaji'u

    O He who is the asylum of every fleer,

  26. وَكُلُّ طَالِبٍ إِيَّاهُ يَرْتجِي

    wa kullu talibin iyyahu yartji

    the hope of every seeker!

  27. يَا خَيْرَ مَرْجُوٍّ

    ya khayra marjuwwin

    O Best Object of hope!

  28. وَيَا أَكْرَمَ مَدْعُوٍّ

    wa ya akrama mad`uwwin

    O Most Generous Object of supplication!

  29. وَيَا مَنْ لاَ يُرَدُّ سَائِلُهُ

    wa ya man la yuraddu sa'iluhu

    O He who asker is never rejected

  30. وَلاَ يُخَيَّبُ آمِلُهُ

    wa la yukhayyabu amiluhu

    And whose expectant is never disappointed!

  31. يَا مَنْ بَابُهُ مَفْتُوحٌ لِدَاعِيهِ

    ya man babuhu maftuhun lida`ihi

    O He whose door is open to His suppliants

  32. وَحِجَابُهُ مَرْفُوعٌ لِرَاجِيهِ

    wa hijabuhu marfu`un lirajihi

    and whose veil is lifted for those who hope in Him!

  33. أَسْأَلُكَ بِكَرَمِكَ أَنْ تَمُنَّ عَلَيَّ

    as'aluka bikaramika an tamunna `alayya

    I ask You by Your generosity to show kindness toward me

  34. مِنْ عَطَائِكَ بِما تَقَرُّ بِهِ عَيْنِي

    min `ata'ika bima taqarru bihi `ayni

    through Your gifts, with that which will gladden my eye,

  35. وَمِنْ رَجَائِكَ بِما تَطْمَئِنُّ بِهِ نَفْسِي

    wa min raja'ika bima tatma'innu bihi nafsi

    through hope in You, with that which will give serenity to my soul,

  36. وَمِنَ ٱلْيَقِينِ بِما تُهَوِّنُ بِهِ عَلَيَّ مُصِيبَاتِ ٱلدُّنْيَا

    wa min alyaqini bima tuhawwinu bihi `alayya musibati addunya

    and through certainty with that which will make easy for me the afflictions of this world

  37. وَتَجْلُو بِهِ عَن بَصِيرَتِي غَشَوَاتِ ٱلْعَمَىٰ

    wa tajlu bihi `an basirati ghashawati al`ama

    and lift from my insight the veils of blindness!

  38. بِرَحْمَتِكَ يَا أَرْحَمَ ٱلرَّاحِمِينَ

    birahmatika ya arhama arrahimina

    By Your mercy, O Most Merciful of the merciful!
