Munajaat 8: Al-Murideen (The Devotees)
بِسْمِ اللّهِ ٱلرَّحْمٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
bismillahi alrrahmani alrrahimi
In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful
سُبْحَانَكَ!
subhanaka
Glory be to You!
مَا أَضْيَقَ ٱلطُّرُقَ عَلَىٰ مَنْ لَمْ تَكُنْ دَلِيلَهُ
ma adyaqa atturuqa `ala man lam takun dalilahu
How narrow are the paths for him whom You have not guided!
وَمَا أَوْضَحَ ٱلْحَقَّ عِنْدَ مَنْ هَدَيْتَهُ سَبِيلَهُ
wa ma awdaha alhaqqa `inda man hadaytahu sabilahu
How plain the truth for him whom You have guided on his way!
إِلٰهِي فَٱسْلُكْ بِنَا سُبُلَ ٱلْوُصُولِ إِلَيْكَ
ilahi fasluk bina subula alwusuli ilayka
My God, so make us travel on the roads that arrive at You
وَسَيِّرْنَا فِي أَقْرَبِ ٱلطُّرُقِ لِلْوُفُودِ عَلَيْكَ
wa sayyirna fi aqrabi atturuqi lilwufudi `alayka
and set us into motion on the paths nearest to reaching You!
قَرِّبْ عَلَيْنَا ٱلْبَعِيدَ
qarrib `alayna alba`ida
Make near for us the far,
وَسَهِّلْ عَلَيْنَا ٱلْعَسِيرَ ٱلشَّدِيدَ
wa sahhil `alayna al`asira ashshadida
and make easy for us the hard and difficult!
وَأَلْحِقْنَا بِعِبَادِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ بِٱلْبِدَارِ إِلَيْكَ يُسَارِعُونَ
wa alhiqna bi`ibadika alladhina hum bilbidari ilayka yusari`una
Join us to Your servants, those who hurry to You swiftly,
وَبَابَكَ عَلَىٰ ٱلدَّوَامِ يَطْرُقُونَ
wa babaka `ala addawami yatruquna
knock constantly at Your door,
وَإِيَّاكَ فِي ٱللَّيلِ وَٱلنَّهَارِ يَعبُدُونَ
wa iyyaka fillayli wannahari ya`buduna
and worship You by night and by day,
وَهُمْ مِنْ هَيْبَتِكَ مُشْفِقُونَ
wa hum min haybatika mushfiquna
while they remain apprehensive in awe of You!
ٱلَّذِينَ صَفَّيْتَ لَهُمُ ٱلْمَشَارِبَ
alladhina saffayta lahum almashariba
You have purified their drinking places,
وَبَلَّغْتَهُمُ ٱلرَّغَائِبَ
wa ballaghtahum arragha'iba
taken them to the objects of their desire,
وَأَنْجَحْتَ لَهُمُ ٱلْمَطَالِبَ
wa anjahta lahum almataliba
granted their requests,
وَقَضَيْتَ لَهُمْ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ ٱلْمَآرِبَ
wa qadayta lahum min fadlika alma'ariba
accomplished their wishes through Your bounty,
وَمَلَأْتَ لَهُمْ ضَمَائِرَهُمْ مِنْ حُبِّكَ
wa mala'ta lahum dama'irahum min hubbika
filled their minds with Your love,
وَرَوَّيتَهُمْ مِنْ صَافِي شِرْبِكَ
wa rawwaytahum min safi shirbika
and quenched their thirst with Your pure drink.
فَبِكَ إِلَىٰ لَذِيذِ مُنَاجَاتِكَ وَصَلُوٱ
fabika ila ladhidhi munajatika wasalu
Through You have they reached the pleasure of whispered prayer to You,
وَمِنْكَ أَقْصَىٰ مَقَاصِدِهِمْ حَصَّلُوٱ
wa minka aqsa maqasidihim hassalu
and in You have they achieved their furthest goals.
فَيَا مَنْ هُوَ عَلَىٰ ٱلْمُقْبِلِينَ عَلَيْهِ مُقْبِلٌ
faya man huwa `ala almuqbilina `alayhi muqbilun
O He who comes toward those who come toward Him
وَبِٱلْعَطْفِ عَلَيْهِمْ عَائِدٌ مُفْضِلٌ
wa bil`atfi `alayhim `a'idun mufdilun
and grants gifts and bestows bounty upon them through tenderness!
وَبِٱلْغَافِلِينَ عَنْ ذِكْرِهِ رَحِيمٌ رَءُوفٌ
wa bilghafilina `an dhikrihi rahimun ra'ufun
He is compassionate and clement toward those heedless of His remembrance
وَبِجَذْبِهِمْ إِلَىٰ بَابِهِ وَدُودٌ عَطُوفٌ
wa bijadhbihim ila babihi wadudun `atufun
and loving and tender in drawing them to His door!
أَسْأَلُكَ أَنْ تَجْعَلَنِي مِنْ أَوْفَرِهِمْ مِنْكَ حَظّاً
as'aluka an taj`alani min awfarihim minka hazzan
I ask You to place me among those of them who have the fullest share from You,
وَأَعْلاهُمْ عِنْدَكَ مَنْزِلاً
wa a`lahum `indaka manzilan
the highest station with You,
وَأَجْزَلِهِمْ مِنْ وُدِّكَ قِسْماً
wa ajzalihim min wuddika qisman
the most plentiful portion of Your love,
وَأَفْضَلِهِمْ فِي مَعْرِفَتِكَ نَصِيباً
wa afdalihim fi ma`rifatika nasiban
and the most excellent allotment of Your knowledge,
فَقَدِ ٱنْقَطَعَتْ إِلَيْكَ هِمَّتِي
faqad inqata`at ilayka himmati
for my aspiration has been cut off from everything but You
وَٱنْصَرَفَتْ نَحْوَكَ رَغْبَتِي
wa insarafat nahwaka raghbati
and my desire has turned toward You alone.
فَأَنْتَ لاَ غَيْرُكَ مُرَادِي
fa anta la ghayruka muradi
You are my object, none other;
وَلَكَ لاَ لِسِوَاكَ سَهَرِي وَسُهَادِي
wa laka la lisiwaka sahari wa suhadi
to You alone belongs my waking and my sleeplessness.
وَلِقَاؤُكَ قُرَّةُ عَيْنِي
wa liqa'uka qurratu `ayni
Meeting You is the gladness of my eye,
وَوَصْلُكَ مُنَىٰ نَفْسِي
wa wasluka muna nafsi
and joining You is the wish of my soul.
وَإِلَيْكَ شَوْقِي
wa ilayka shawqi
Toward You is my yearning,
وَفِي مَحَبَّتِكَ وَلَهِي
wa fi mahabbatika walahi
in love for You my passionate longing,
وَإِلَىٰ هَوَاكَ صَبَابَتِي
wa ila hawaka sababati
in inclining toward You my fervent craving.
وَرِضَاكَ بُغْيَتِي
wa ridaka bughyati
Your good pleasure is the aim I seek,
وَرُؤْيَتُكَ حَاجَتِي
wa ru'yatuka hajati
vision of You my need,
وَجِوَارُكَ طَلِبَتِي
wa jiwaruka talibati
Your neighborhood my request,
وَقُرْبُكَ غايَةُ سُؤْلِي
wa qurbuka ghayatu su'li
and nearness to You is the utmost object of my asking.
وَفِي مُناجَاتِكَ رَوْحِي وَرَاحَتِي
wa fi munajatika rawhi wa rahati
In whispered prayer to You, I find my repose and my ease.
وَعِنْدَكَ دَوَاءُ عِلَّتِي
wa `indak dawa'u `illati
With You lies the remedy of my illness,
وَشِفَاءُ غُلَّتِي
wa shifa'u ghullati
the cure for my burning thirst,
وَبَرْدُ لَوْعَتِي
wa bardu law`ati
the coolness of my ardor,
وَكَشْفُ كُرْبَتِي
wa kashfu kurbati
the removal of my distress.
فَكُنْ أَنِيسِي فِي وَحْشَتِي
fakun anisi fi wahshati
Be my intimate in my loneliness,
وَمُقِيلَ عَثْرَتِي
wa muqila `athrati
the releaser of my stumble,
وَغَافِرَ زَلَّتِي
wa ghafira zallati
the forgiver of my slip,
وَقَابِلَ تَوْبَتِي
wa qabila tawbati
the accepter of my repentance,
وَمُجِيبَ دَعْوَتِي
wa mujiba da`wati
the responder to my supplication,
وَوَلِيَّ عِصْمَتِي
wa waliyya `ismati
the patron of preserving me from sin,
وَمُغْنِيَ فَاقَتِي
wa mughniya faqati
the one who frees me from my neediness
وَلاَ تَقْطَعْنِي عَنْكَ
wa la taqta`ni `anka
Cut me not off from You
وَلاَ تُبْعِدْنِي مِنْكَ
wa la tub`idni minka
and keep me not far from You
يَا نَعِيمِي وَجَنَّتِي
ya na`imi wa jannati
O my bliss and my garden
وَيَا دُنْيَايَ وَآخِرَتِي
wa ya dunyaya wa akhirati
O my world and my hereafter
يَا أَرْحَمَ ٱلرَّاحِمِينَ
ya arhama arrahimina
O Most Merciful of the merciful
