Al-Inshiqaaq
سُورَةُ الانشِقَاقِ
The Splitting Open
**In The Name of Allah, The Beneficent, The Merciful** This Surah, like many other Surahs of the last part of the holy Qur'an, talks about the Resurrection. First, there are some references to the awful events of the time when this world ends and the New World begins. Then, it speaks about the resurrection and The Reckoning of the good-doers and evildoers and their ultimate end. Further, it refers to the deeds and beliefs of the disbelievers which bring about Allah’s punishment on them. And then, after some oaths, it touches on the different stages man goes through during and after his life. Finally, it returns to speaking about the good and evil actions of man and his rewards or punishments on That Day.
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ إِذَا ٱلسَّمَآءُ ٱنشَقَّتْ
Izas samaaa'un shaqqat
WHEN THE SKY is cleft asunder,
وَأَذِنَتْ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتْ
Wa azinat li Rabbihaa wa huqqat
And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful,
وَإِذَا ٱلْأَرْضُ مُدَّتْ
Wa izal ardu muddat
When the earth is stretched out taut
وَأَلْقَتْ مَا فِيهَا وَتَخَلَّتْ
Wa alqat maa feehaa wa takhallat
And throws out whatever it contains and is empty,
وَأَذِنَتْ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتْ
Wa azinat li Rabbihaa wa huqqat
And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful,
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ إِنَّكَ كَادِحٌ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ كَدْحًۭا فَمُلَٰقِيهِ
Yaaa ayyuhal insaanu innaka kaadihun ilaa Rabbika kad han famulaaqeeh
O man, you have to strive and go on striving towards your Lord, then will you meet Him.
فَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِىَ كِتَٰبَهُۥ بِيَمِينِهِۦ
Fa ammaa man ootiya kitaabahoo biyameenih
And he who is given his ledger in his right hand
فَسَوْفَ يُحَاسَبُ حِسَابًۭا يَسِيرًۭا
Fasawfa yuhaasabu hi saabai yaseeraa
Will have an easy reckoning,
وَيَنقَلِبُ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِۦ مَسْرُورًۭا
Wa yanqalibu ilaaa ahlihee masrooraa
And will return to his people full of joy.
وَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِىَ كِتَٰبَهُۥ وَرَآءَ ظَهْرِهِۦ
Wa ammaa man ootiya kitaabahoo waraaa'a zahrih
But he who is given his ledger from behind his back
فَسَوْفَ يَدْعُوا۟ ثُبُورًۭا
Fasawfa yad'oo subooraa
Will pray for death,
وَيَصْلَىٰ سَعِيرًا
Wa yaslaa sa'eeraa
But will be roasted in the fire.
إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ فِىٓ أَهْلِهِۦ مَسْرُورًا
Innahoo kaana feee ahlihee masrooraa
He lived rejoicing among his people,
إِنَّهُۥ ظَنَّ أَن لَّن يَحُورَ
Innahoo zanna al lai yahoor
Never thinking he will return.
بَلَىٰٓ إِنَّ رَبَّهُۥ كَانَ بِهِۦ بَصِيرًۭا
Balaaa inna Rabbahoo kaana bihee baseeraa
Why not? His Lord was always watching him.
فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِٱلشَّفَقِ
Falaaa uqsimu bishshafaq
So indeed I call to witness the evening twilight,
وَٱلَّيْلِ وَمَا وَسَقَ
Wallaili wa maa wasaq
And the night and all it gathers,
وَٱلْقَمَرِ إِذَا ٱتَّسَقَ
Walqamari izat tasaq
And the moon when at the full,
لَتَرْكَبُنَّ طَبَقًا عَن طَبَقٍۢ
Latarkabunna tabaqan 'an tabaq
That you will climb from stage to stage.
فَمَا لَهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ
Famaa lahum laa yu'minoon
So, wherefore do they not believe?
وَإِذَا قُرِئَ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلْقُرْءَانُ لَا يَسْجُدُونَ ۩
Wa izaa quri'a 'alaihimul Quraanu laa yasjudoon
And when the Qur'an is recited to them do not bow in adoration?
بَلِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ يُكَذِّبُونَ
Balil lazeena kafaroo yukazziboon
In fact the unbelievers disavow.
وَٱللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يُوعُونَ
Wallaahu a'lamu bimaa yoo'oon
But God knows what they harbour in their breasts.
فَبَشِّرْهُم بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ
Fabashshirhum bi'azaabin aleem
So give them news of painful punishment,
إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ لَهُمْ أَجْرٌ غَيْرُ مَمْنُونٍۭ
Illal lazeena aamanoo wa 'amilus saalihaati lahum ajrun ghairu mamnoon
Except those who believe and do the right: For them there is reward unending.
